“Scopricollina”, a ring-route of about 10m, is an opportunity to learn about the historical events, cultural significance, agricultural and natural heritage of the Pinerolo hill, which embraces the city, holds paths rich in history, fascinating landscapes and new challenges.
Here we encounter numerous life-size corten silhouettes, depicting characters - Edmondo De Amicis, Ortensia da Piossasco, Giovanni Prever and Margherita Tron, Luigi Facta, the olive grower, the winegrower, the soldier, the medieval lady, the miner -, historical elements or local curiosities; each silhouette is linked to a QR code that allows one to listen to a descriptive audio.
A characterising element of the itinerary is the wine-growing reality. Historical maps show that wine was the leading agricultural product here as early as the end of the 18th century, so much so that in 1881 a very important ampelographic exhibition was organised in Pinerolo, with the display of 628 specimens of grapes, 333 of which were indigenous. In the 21st century, after decades of neglect, many wine productions have come back to life thanks to the courage of a few young people who have bet on the territory: hence “Scopricollina” also winds its way through the vineyards of these companies and among olive trees and blueberries.
The evening literary tour on 2 July 2022, conducted by a professional guide, leads to the discovery of some historical figures linked to Pinerolo, with readings on French Pinerolo taken from “At the gates of Italia” by Edmondo De Amicis: climbing the bell tower of St Maurizio, a visit to the Basilica and a final dessert tasting.
The meeting point is the Tourist Office (Via Duomo 1), departure at 8.30pm and booking is required.
